At every step in this young ladybug's life, he is challenged for being "ladyish" despite being a boy.
Even after graduating school he is constantly confronted by other bugs, and his life is made difficult at every step. Eventually he learns to work with other ladybugs to confront his adversaries and find his own way in life.
A young reader can easily identify with the ladybug's situation and learn from his patient example.
